Background on the UNESCO Designation
Established in 1976 and renewed and expanded to its current 102,000 square acre footprint in 2017, Oregon’s Cascade Head Biosphere Region marks its 50th anniversary this year. This extraordinary convergence of land and sea includes a complete coastal temperate rainforest watershed and a protected marine reserve. Cascade Head Biosphere Region serves a vibrant living laboratory where communities, ecosystems, and research come together.
