Natural Arts and Sciences Speaker Series
Climate Research in our UNESCO Cascade Head Biosphere Region
Come hear about the 4CAST Project —our community-focused climate research effort within the UNESCO Cascade Head Biosphere Region. This talk will highlight the on-the-ground work we and and our partners are doing to observe and interpret climate change across the uplands, river & estuary, the intertidal, and the open ocean. We’ll explore active projects like meteorological monitoring with regional and micro-scale weather stations, the Pheno-Cam plant phenology network, acoustic bat monitoring, Sitka spruce growth tracking, Green Crab invasion surveys, ocean acidification monitoring, a new mussel monitoring program in tidepools, and more. Join scientists, artists, and community scientists to learn how these efforts link real-time observations to climate trends and what they mean for coastal ecosystems and communities.
Living Laboratories ~ The Cascade Head Biosphere Region provides a rich array of research opportunities, including the Cascade Head Experimental Forest and Scenic-Research Area, the Neskowin Crest Research Natural Area, and the Cascade Head Marine Reserve and Marine Protected Areas.
