Deluxe Naturalist Estuary Cruise & Gyotaku Experience

Step aboard a 22-passenger, U.S. Coast Guard-certified pontoon boat for an immersive one-hour naturalist-guided cruise through the spectacular lower Salmon River Estuary. Departing from Knight Park, this extended tour ventures toward the mouth of the Salmon River and up into its winding, sinuous waterways—providing access to quiet corners of the estuary that few visitors ever experience.

Along the way, your naturalist guide will share the rich stories of this remarkable landscape, from the history of the Indigenous peoples who have called it home for thousands of years to the geology that shaped the estuary, the global significance of the UNESCO Cascade Head Biosphere Region, and the diverse plants and wildlife that thrive here. Keep an eye out for great blue herons, bald eagles, osprey, kingfishers, harbor seals, and a variety of migratory shorebirds while learning about the ecological importance of one of Oregon's most productive estuaries.

After returning to shore, enjoy a light snack before creating your own nature-inspired keepsake. Using the traditional Japanese art of Gyotaku, you'll make a print of one of the fish species found in the estuary—a memorable way to connect art, science, and the natural world.
